House Resolution 34

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. JOHN P. QUON ON BEING NAMED THE FIRST JOHN YURKOW DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTANCY.

WHEREAS, Mr. John P. Quon, a life-long resident of the Delta, having grown up and still living in Moorhead, has been named the first John Yurkow Distinguished Professor of Accountancy at Delta State University; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, Professor Quon began teaching at Delta State University after earning the BBA and MBA degrees and completing advanced study at the University of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his teaching at Delta State, Mr. Quon has taught at the University of Mississippi, Northwest Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Delta Community College; and

WHEREAS, during his 28 years at Delta State, Professor Quon has developed a reputation of concern for his students and their success as evidenced by his involvement as the faculty advisor for Omicron Delta Kappa and Delta Mu Delta; and

WHEREAS, Professor Quon has been an active member of many professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Board of Governors of the Mississippi Society of Certified Accountants, and he is a former Chairman of the Awards, Education and Scholarships Committee, and a member of the Delta Chapter of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, President and currently serves as Chapter Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Professor Quon has received several awards throughout his long and distinguished career, such as the S.E. Kossman Outstanding Faculty Award for 1991-1992, and recently, was named the 1999 Outstanding Educator by the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants; and

WHEREAS, Professor Quon has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his beautiful wife, Frieda, and their sons, Trey and Shannon; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend such outstanding educators as Professor Quon, who has dedicated his professional career to educating the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Professor John P. Quon on being named the first John Yurkow Distinguished Professor of Accountancy at Delta State University and extend to him our heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Quon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
